Open rates do not build pipeline. Conversations do.

Why modern tracking can mislead SME owners—and the commercial measures that tell you whether outreach is actually working.

Green Agents campaign creative. Figures shown in historic artwork are illustrative campaign reporting and should not be treated as guaranteed results.

The number that looks exciting may be the least useful number on the screen.

Open rates have always been an imperfect guide. Privacy protections, automatic image loading, security scanners and forwarding can all distort what an email platform records. An unusual figure should prompt investigation, not celebration.

For an SME owner, the commercial question is not whether a dashboard moved. It is whether the campaign reached appropriate decision-makers, created genuine replies and produced conversations worth continuing.

This is why The Green Agents designs measurement from the sales process backwards. We begin with the decision the business needs to make, then collect only the information that helps make it.

01

Target-account coverage

How many genuinely suitable organisations did the team reach, and did the right roles see the proposition?

02

Meaningful responses

Separate automated activity and polite declines from questions, referrals, timing signals and requests to talk.

03

Qualified conversations

Count discussions where there is a relevant need, a plausible fit and a sensible next action.

04

Progression

Track whether conversations advance to discovery, proposal, review or a dated future follow-up.

05

Commercial learning

Record objections, market language and reasons for inaction so the next campaign becomes more precise.

Use open and click data as diagnostic clues. Judge success by suitable conversations, disciplined follow-up and movement through the pipeline.
